Safe SurrenderA program will help clear warrants for non-criminal violations

#

FOR RELEASE: June 20, 2018

Onondaga County District Attorney William J. Fitzpatrick today announced a cooperative initiative, entitled “Syracuse Safe Surrender 2018.”

According to District Attorney Fitzpatrick, my office is working in conjunction with Syracuse City Court, Syracuse Police Department and the Southwest Community Center, to assist those who have City of Syracuse warrants for traffic charges, local law violations, and other non-criminal violations (disorderly conduct, simple trespass, unlawful possession of marijuana, etc.) and have them resolved. Those who have warrants should come to the Southwest Community Center, 401 South Avenue, Syracuse on June 29, 2018, July 27, 2018 or August 24, 2018, between the hours of 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM and their warrant will be cleared. The individual will NOT be arrested and the charge will be addressed and hopefully resolved.

This program only applies to City of Syracuse warrants for the types of charges mentioned above. Those wanting warrants addressed should bring photo ID, if they have one. If you cannot attend one of these dates and have an outstanding warrant, they should contact the relevant Court or law enforcement agency.

Fitzpatrick said, “In an effort to help our community, the program partners want to allow those with eligible offenses to clear the warrants and, in turn, clear a path to a job, a driver’s license or simply, a clean slate.”

Questions can be addressed to Chief Assistant District Attorney Alison Fineberg at 315-435-2470
