ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEYS

Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of New York. Applicants must demonstrate a sound work ethic, a willingness to embrace the challenges of a trial practice, and the ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere while displaying an ethical obligation to justice.  Applicants must commit to a three (3) year commitment and live in Onondaga County during their employment.

LEGAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Applicants must be a graduate from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a degree in Law (J.D. or BB.L.), and passed the New York State Bar Examination but do not need to be an admitted attorney.  Applicants must be able to complete in a variety of advanced legal research which entail the application of law and legal research as well as the preparation of legal documents.  Applicants must live in Onondaga County.

LEGAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR

 

CONFIDENTIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY INVESTIGATOR

The Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office Investigations Bureau is made up of four (4) categories of investigators – Confidential District Attorney Investigator I, Confidential District Attorney Investigator II, and Confidential District Attorney Investigator III, and Confidential District Attorney Chief Investigator.

All Confidential District Attorney Investigator positions are not included as part of the 20 years New York State Police and Fire Retirement System, and are relegated to serve 25 years and reach the age of 55 years prior to retirement. There is no compensation for overtime.  Investigative positions are on-call 24 hours a day; seven (7) days a week.  Applicants must reside in Onondaga County or an adjoining county.

SUPPORT STAFF

The Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office employs those who support the operation and mission of the office. Positions include but are not limited to:  Paralegal, Legal Secretary, Clerk, Account Clerk, Accountant, Information Aide, and Victim Assistance Coordinator.

INTERNSHIPS

Internships are offered to students throughout the year. Students will be assigned to a specific bureau to work with and assist attorneys and support staff.  Assignments include but are not limited to filing, copying, document organization, jail call transcribing, and drafting correspondence.  Law school students are assigned to the Law and Appeals Bureau and will be assigned to draft written briefs and memorandums of law, and perform legal research.
